Day 1 of this 3 Day Cycling Tour of Connemara sees the group depart from Galway heading west along the coastline towards magical Connemara. The route is a nice 75 Kms of fairly level terrain and your experienced Ride Wild Cycling Guide will manage the group on the road so as to maximise the enjoyment of the group.
At 36 Kms we’ll stop for coffee and a slice of something sweet in one of Connemara’s wonderful roadside restaurants, allowing the group a break from the saddle before tackling the second half of the day’s spin. After coffee the route winds its way through some stunning coastal scenery before we’ll make a stop at historical Padraig Pearce’s cottage before moving on to our lunch stop at Coyne’s Bar in the picturesque village of Kilkieran. Coyne’s is well – known for having one of the best seafood chowder anywhere along the Wild Atlantic Way.
After lunch, it’s a leisurely 10 kms finish to the spin into the village of Carna which will be our base for the night.
Day 2 sees the cyclists leave the village of Carna and head along this spectacular piece of coastline with our first stop being the picturesque village of Roundstone. Vaughan’s Roundstone House is a really beautiful spot with some amazing seafood fresh from the harbour some 500m away from their front door.
After lunch we’ll head for Clifden via the village of Ballyconneely and the magnificent Sky Road Loop, before arriving into Clifden which will be our base for the night. Clifden has many buzzing bars and restaurants and is a really pleasant place for a leisurely stroll after dinner.
Day 3 takes the group out around the breath taking Connemara Loop and heading for the harbour village of Cleggan where we’ll stop for a coffee and a tasty sweet treat!
After coffee the spectacular route takes us through the village of Letterfrack before we arrive in the town of Tullycross, where we’ll be stopping for lunch. This part of rural Connemara has both wonderful sea views and rugged mountainous views back inland, so as always on a Ride Wild itinerary you need to have the camera at the ready!
After a tasty lunch stop, we are back on the road with our final destination being the town of Leenane which sits spectacularly on the shores of Killary Harbour. Our base for the night will be the Leenane Hotel which enjoys stunning views over Ireland’s only Fjord.
